Dubai's desert begins surprisingly close to the city. Within 45–60 minutes of Downtown, the towers give way to the red dunes of the Lahbab and Al Awir areas, where the iron-rich sand turns a deep orange at sunset. That short distance is why the desert is so easy to fit into even a short stay.
